Box Lid Cover

For the cover to the box lid i could not use the same image that is used as the front cover to my comic book as they are two different sizes, not only that but i didnt want to show everything all up front, i want to capture the users attention and make them want to open the box and experience the DVD. Therefore a smaller version was created, seen above :)

Proj 5 - 6/7 June

For my DVD case i am going to create a stylish wooden box that will open on a hinge system so that its sort of like opening a book. So overall the project will be a box set that will contain the DVD that is what i like to call a "DVD Digital Comic book". Its taking the world of comics into new age, with the content digital it needs protecting as it can be damaged easily. Because of this wood is quite a good material to use being durable as well as stylish if its shape is designed nicely. The box base, frame and lid will all be made of wood and then on top of the lid will be a layer of perspex which will cover an image of a smaller, refined version of the front cover to the comic book as seen on the DVD.

Front Cover to Comic Book

Here is the front cover to the comic book I am designing for my DVD menu. It incorporates my little animation guy who is representative of myself and then images relevant to each of my project while overall keeping in the style of a comic/magazine. For the 48 hour film, my part was the "shy ninja" so i have used a ninja image to represent that. For my documentary, it was about a history of video games, for that project i designed a controller which can easily sum up video gaming so it was placed on the cover. Then my site project, i was trying to express the essense/traces we leave behind i a site, the particular site i chose was the primary school. There were many things you could find as evidence of people being there. Such things included clothes and graffiti. These 2 things I have portrayed in 2 cartoon characters i created. A sock and spraycan figure. These graphics were also used on my website to portray the film so i thought i would include them here also.

Proj 5 - 1 June

Am making some good progress on my project. Although it wont be so great this week as I have two other projects I need to complete before Cinematics as they are due next week Monday so after tomorrow I’m going to have to put it on hold for a few days. Not to worry though as I think I’m at a good place right now and later today I am going to begin work on the DVD case. I have decided to use wood for the case. As I mentioned in a previous blog I really want to get away from simple cardboard made cases and I like wood, you can create some really treasurable items out of it. My DVD is something to treasure, a privilege to own :P so wood is fitting to my project.

Proj 5 - 30 May

Final class session of Cinematics was today. Rather shocking, almost half way through the year. I had a talk with Morgan about my idea with the DVD and he seems to think it’s a good idea so a comic book style it is ☺ Over the next few days leading up to the hand in I will create all necessary images for the menus, transitions and any other animations I decide to use.
